Sheet Metal Foreman Job Description

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

5-10 Years of knowledge and experience with all metal roofing and wall systems

Knowledge and experience of construction terms

Knowledge of SMACNA details pertaining to metal roof and wall systems including details related to

Single-ply and BUR systems

Must know how to read and interpret plan details and drawings

Knowledge of working with dissimilar metals

Ability to manage and train crew members

Knowledge of Safety policies and procedures

Pay close attention to detail and ability to multitask

Knowledge of Company policies and procedures

Ability to learn quickly and adapt to situations as they arise

Primary Responsibilities

Maintain Job site and follow Safety policies and procedures

Supervise crew and assign duties

Maintain quality levels and productivity

Lead and train crew to be more productive

Maintain working relationship with crew members

Check in materials as they are delivered to job site and record any discrepancies and notify Superintendent immediately

Communicate with Superintendent regarding job progress, concerns, and questions immediately

Communicate with General Contractor’s Foreman/ superintendent

Maintain a zero punch list throughout job progress and at the conclusion of the job

Complete daily checklists and tool box talks in About Time

Order materials that are needed to complete tasks in a timely manner

Report any and all injuries immediately to the Safety Coordinator and Superintendent

Additional Requirements

Valid Driver License and ability to be insured to drive Company Vehicle

Pick up and deliver materials to job site as needed

Ability to be certified to operate equipment ( Forklift, Aerial Lift, Scissor Lift, ETC )

Work in extreme / adverse weather conditions

Communicate discretely any employee problems / challenges with Superintendent/ Branch Manager

Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse range of people and job functions

Identify and understand variances in scope of work to help generate RFI’s and Change Orders

Accomplish tasks of moderate to high complexity


The Sheet Metal Foreman is a self starter who can recognize where processes can be improved and who will take the initiative to improve them. Is a team player in helping to reach company goals and helps create an efficient working environment by keeping production costs low and maintain employee morale. Responsible to supervise the crew and maintain a clean and safe worksite. Maintain an outstanding level of quality and keeping jobs at a zero punch at the conclusion of the job.
