At Progressive Roofing, safety always comes first. We believe that nothing is more important than the health and well-being of our employees. We have implemented strict safety protocols and training programs to ensure that every employee understands the importance of safety. Our commitment to safety extends beyond our employees to our customers, vendors, and the communities in which we operate. We believe that by prioritizing safety, we can create a culture of responsible production that benefits everyone involved.

Safety Structure

Progressive Roofing utilizes a comprehensive program that has proven to be a successful benchmark in the industry. The first step in any successful safety program is to have in place a safety hierarchy within the company. Progressive Roofing utilizes a hybrid structure that is a mixture of the traditional organization with that of a matrix structure. In doing so, Progressive Roofing can adapt more quickly to OSHA regulatory changes and work environments including complimenting the safety programs of its clients. Moreover, since each state has their own unique workers’ compensation laws, Progressive Roofing can easily conform to them.

Employees’ Rights

Progressive Roofing acknowledges that employees have a right and duty to refuse unsafe work if they believe their health or safety is endangered. A Progressive Roofing supervisor must investigate any complaint that is brought forward. PROGRESSIVE ROOFING prohibits any employer from penalizing, dismissing, disciplining, suspending or threatening any employee who exercises his or her right to refuse unsafe work. This policy not only protects employees from retaliation for reporting safety concerns but also allows them to be an important part of the safety program.

Process Management

The Purpose of Process Safety management is to prevent or minimize consequences of catastrophic releases of toxic, reactive, flammable or explosive chemicals. Our safety team holds the responsibility of instructing employees of all hazards related to their jobs including potential fire, explosive and toxic release hazards. Training of employees on safety is an obligation of Progressive Roofing and all training is documented by management. The required safety procedures must be followed during ALL operations including lockout / tagout, confined space entry, opening process equipment or piping and control over entrance to facility.

Onboarding

Before any individual begins employment, PROGRESSIVE ROOFING requires all employees to complete our New Hire Safety Training and to read and sign off on all safety materials in a language they understand. Orientation literature is available from our Corporate Safety department to summarize health and safety concerns and is issued when a person commences employment. Safety indoctrination to our safety policy and program is imperative in order to establish the desired attitudes and reinforce the commitment to a safe work environment.

Health and Safety Training

The PROGRESSIVE ROOFING objective is to deliver health & safety related training to our employees, including supervisory and management staff. Some of this safety related training includes:

  • New employee safety training
  • First-aid Training as per regulatory requirements
  • Health and safety representation training

Site Safety

Site-Specific safety plans and programs are developed for each and every project. Every site-specific safety plan is reviewed by the division Safety Director and Safety Support Center.

The project superintendent and foreman are responsible for the implementation and management of any designed site safety plan.

Ear Protection

The objective of the noise-monitoring program is to obtain ongoing information about the noise environment in workplaces. Sufficient detail and accuracy are required so that management can make decisions regarding engineering controls and a hearing conservation program that will protect employees and comply with Federal regulations. Hearing Protective equipment must be worn at all times in an area where employee noise exposures equal or exceed an 8 hour time weighted average sound level (TWA) of 85 decibels.

Personal Protection

Progressive Roofing provides all necessary personal protective equipment (PPE).

All PPE is inspected by Progressive Roofing prior to use, any equipment found in non-working or defective condition is not used. All PPE must be properly fitted to each employee.

Fire Protection

The purpose of the Fire Protection and Prevention program is to reduce the likelihood of a fire or damage resulting from a fire. Employees receive this training initially and also each year thereafter. An adequate supply of 10# and 20# ABC-rated fire extinguishers are located throughout the project site.  The travel distance to any fire extinguisher shall not exceed 50 feet. Portable fire extinguishers are visually inspected on a monthly basis and must have an annual maintenance check.

Fall Protection

Progressive Roofing takes fall prevention very seriously.  Fall protection is required whenever employees are working on a surface that has an unprotected side or edge that is 6 feet or more above the lower level.  Some of the following fall protection methods are utilized when working in this environment:

  • Warning Line System
  • Safety Monitoring System
  • Parapet Wall Clamp-on guardrail system
  • Guardrail system
  • Catch platforms
  • Personal Fall Arrest System
